Sara Ramirez

Sara Ramirez has been a Mexican American performer, actress, and songwriter for many years. Her mom raised her in the USA in a place where she endured many racial taunts that made her feel like an unwanted person. If she attended school contests and received high praise for her singing when she was in the ninth grade the young girl started to feel more confident. She not only gained confidence through the audition and gained experience, but also changed her plans for her career. In 1992, she earned her degree from New York's Julliard School. When she turned 23 years old, she launched her career on Broadway in Paul Simon's The Capeman. Then, at 23 years old she made her film debut in You've got mail. Her biggest breakthrough was when she appeared in the character in the role of The Lady of The Lake in the first Broadway production of Spamalot receiving not just her the Tony Award for her performance but also great critical acclaim. Later that year, as Callie Torres on Grey's Anatomy for ABC, she gained greater recognition. As a well-known singer, she released her own single and an extended show. She has also been an advocate for LGBT issues.
